Heliographing in the bush

Heliographing in the bush

The use of heliograph through history was usually military signalling in circumstances where no other means of communication were possible. Mirrors are used when the Sun is up and signalling is usually based on Morse code. Heliographing in the bush is an intervention with mirrors for Susak Expo 2018, signalling FREE STATE while targeting the sensor of a digital camera.  The intervention is documented with digital photography and at the same time there is a risk of burning the sensor and retina, since this is a kind of mirroring which is not recommended to be performed in direct gazing.
